Workplace by Facebook, which now has five million paid users, launched Workplace Rooms, updates to its live video, and hooks into Oculus for Business as well as Portal devices.
The company’s paid user base is up from three million in October 2019 as adoption has accelerated amid the shift to remote work during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, the move to roll out Workplace Rooms and improve live video were accelerated amid the video conferencing boom. Source

Instagram adds new anti-bullying features, including tag controls, comment management tools
As part of its anti-bullying efforts, Instagram today announced a series of new features aimed at helping users better manage negative comments as well as highlight positive ones. It’s also adding new controls to manage who can tag or mention you on Instagram, which can be another source of online bullying.

The first of the new features for managing negative comments is specifically aimed at those who own or help run Instagram accounts with a large following. Being able to manage a surge of negative comments on these accounts can be difficult — especially in the case of a post that’s gone viral or a coordinated attack from online trolls or bots. Source

Facebook Shops: The Next Power Move To Make Banks Irrelevant For SMEs. Facebook announced their launch of Facebook shops. CEO Mark Zuckerberg described the launch as a way to help small businesses to move their businesses online. The new functionality allows a small business to set up a shop within their Facebook or Instagram page. Source

TikTok apps’s fall from 4.5 to 1.5 ratings on playstore
TikTok In India: Will #BanTikTokinIndia stop marketers from advertising on TikTok.
What started as an argument between content creators has now rolled up into large a controversy so much as that China’s ByteDance is under fire for its short-form video content platform TikTok. In the last two days, not only TikTok’s ratings have gone down massively to one star on Google Play Store, hashtags such as #BanTikTokinIndia has been trending on social media platforms such as Twitter. “Promoting a safe and positive environment is a top priority for TikTok. Our terms of services and community guidelines (policies) clearly outline what is and is not acceptable on our platform. We expect our users to adhere to these policies at all times,” TikTok said in an official statement. Source

Latest Apple iOS 13.5 & iPad OS Have COVID-19 Specific Features
Apple and Google have been working on a common platform to device an API (Application Program Interface) that can help track COVID-19 infections with guidance from public health officials using the phone’s Bluetooth technology.

The latest iOS 13.5 and iPad OS 13.5 have been released for users that come bundled with some COVID-19 specific features such as faster Face ID unlock which also supports a way to unlock the phone with face masks on and a COVID-19 Exposure Notification API. Source

Google Chrome to crack down on battery- and data-sucking display ads
What will happen? Chrome will limit the resources a display ad can use before a user engages with it. If an ad exceeds the resource limit, Chrome will unload the ad using a mechanism called Heavy Ad Intervention. Users will see a message such as “Ad removed” in place of the ad. Source

Google Meet crosses 50 million downloads on Google Play Store; did you know you can use it for free now?
With people opting to work remotely instead of going to office during the Coronavirus pandemic, there is a significant shift in the way meetings are conducted. Instead of booking meeting rooms, people are now sending invites for Google Meet and hold meetings and conferences virtually via digital means. As a result, more and more people have been downloading group video calling applications to meet their work requirements. This has led to more than 50 million downloads of Google Meet from Google Play Store across the world, according to a report by AppBrain. It is to note that in the beginning of March this year, the application was downloaded by 5 million users which has now grown 10 times. Source
